I need a sense of urgency to get anything done, even things I really want to do!

I wish my taxes were finished last night - that is unfortunately how I am spending my lunch time today 😖

yeah need for crisis mode ... it's the nervous system waiting for enough activation to start. the cost is that each pressure cycle shifts the baseline. six months in, even "big" urgency doesn't land the way it used to, and the boring tasks get even harder 🙈

I'm in my 40s and as im getting closer to 50, I'm noticing a shift in attention span. I start one project e.g. clearing out paper I dont need, then I step away (maybe to use the restroom, grab a snack, walk the dog) and then start organizing a shelf, and before I know it, 2 hours later I walk back to my original project and realize I FORGOT all about it.

On a related/unrelated note, I am decluttering right now, and feel "FREE" if that makes sense. I am getting rid of 'stuff' - some items that I have had for years, but do not do anything with, short of holding it. I also need to stop impulse buying.

Interesting you use a dentist appointment as an example here. I already had to call for an appointment in February, and am still putting it off, finding other things that are more important. I haven't been diagnosed (yet) with ADHD, but the more I read about it, the more I'm convinced of the outcome of the tests. Thank you for the clear explanation here. It definitely makes me understand better what's happening in my brain.
