Thanks for this! I was just diagnosed with ADHD and I'm in my early 60's! I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I have the added complication of having several disabling chronic illnesses, so life is definitely a challenge. I'm hoping to find more information geared towards people my age. Any information is helpful though!
This is such a useful tool for a lot of people that think weekends should feel naturally freeing, when for some brains they can feel unstructured in a way that turns into anxiety fast. The three-anchor idea feels simple in the best way! Thanks for sharing!
👍 this is the pattern i keep seeing. the weekday runs on external regulation, deadlines, other people's expectations, your calendar deciding what comes next. the weekend removes all of it and the body doesn't rest, it just loses its organizing principle. the scrolling isn't a failure of willpower. it's the nervous system looking for something to lean on when the scaffolding is gone. the three anchors idea works because it gives just enough structure without replacing one full schedule with another. recovery needs its own rhythm too.
Hey!!!! You are making a difference. Today i sent the email, I had "written " in my head for two days. I said, just look up the address. Once there itvwas a piece of cake to do it. Take the prestep, before the first step. Whooohooo. (It was a letter of gratitude to my better bones teacher)
“You finally have two whole days to yourself. You can sleep in, catch up on things, relax, do that hobby you’ve been meaning to get to.” Tell me you’re not a mom without telling me you’re not a mom. 😂
It’s true that the weekend offers less structure, but for caretakers, our anchors are our charges. And they control the timing - especially when they’re small. So it’s more like trying to arrange three consecutive minutes to fit in any of the hobbies or tasks you mention. I feel like that’s the reason for the doomscrolling; three minutes isn’t enough time for my ADHD brain to initiate anything except scrolling.

Hey Shari, so glad this found you. I've sent you a message on substack to see how I can help :)

I could have used this on Friday. Since I have next weekend planned out I’ll try this the weekend after.
